For the film introduction, I've considered important to create a desired environment for the scene since the scene will take place in the 80s in South America, in a party for only teenagers, the colors violet and blue or orange will be the key colors for the lighting of the room. The scene needs to be dark on the first 30 seconds due to the emotional state in which the m,ain character is going through as he feels that he is rejected by his crush. As his friends get him to come out to the party, the room's darkenss will contrast with the light of the hallway making the the shadow from the friend's bodies. This contrast is elemental to the scene since it will creates the sense of missing out which the protagonist Juan lacks. The living room, where the party will take place, will be a space in which the colors are going to appear; the blue and purple are chosen in order to give the environment of the party since the cold colors are the common used for the lasers and lighting of the parties, that were also part in the 80s parties, as it appears on the scene of Call Me By Your Name, in which there are darker colors and the lights for the party are violet, which shine on the characters who are on the party to contrast with the protagonist's (Elio) attitude, demonstrated by the dark lighting of the character's placement in the scene.
On the other side I have considered to also involve the color orange in order to give the sensation of the film been foreign or hispanic. Stereotypically, for countries as India and Mexico, the scenes possesses yellow lighting or lenses in order to simulate how hot the enviroment is or how foreign it is; this technique is used on the film Slumdog Millionaire in order to give an specific look to the film or to certain scenes as it is needed since it also symbolizes insecurity as it is used on the film of
Slumdog Millionaire in which he is been questioned by the corruptive manager of the show in which Jamal is participating. Therefore, I will consider to use the orange yellow lighting as the intitial color for the living room, and as the crush of the main character appears, the scene would include blue lighting to simulate relevance onn the new character's presence, showing relevance or contrast on what they have seen in the introduction. (Slumdog Millionaire 2008)
As a result, my film introduction is going to have for the first 30 seconds, only dark and little l;ight just showing the main character's silluette; all witht he purpose to show the emotional state with the character. Outside of Juan's room, the light will be orange yellow to demonstarte the presence of the other people in his house which possess a different attitude, and to follow the aesthetic for foreign films with tropical or hot environments. And lastly, as the protagonist approaches the peoploe who is dancing and views his crush, the lighting will involve or switch to violet lighting in order to indicate the presence of the party environment of the 80s and to demonstrate the presence of a different character, elemental to the development of the story since the crush will appear,a nd the film is mainly about jaun's love interest.
Also the color Blue, Violet and Oranghe Yellow are chosen inspired by the YouTube video which demonstrates the psychology of color in film:
- To demonstrate the hispanic culture, and presence of party in nthe living room.
- REMOTENESS: to demonstarte the isolation of the character from the party due to his emotional state of been rejected by his love interest.
- For the dance scenes and to show the presence of the love interest in the party, all with the purpose to show the lust purpose of some of the dancers, and the superficial love jaun has for Ana Sofia (Juan's crush).
