The perspective of a relationship

Hello everybody, and no I am not telling you how I am doing on the editing of this baby.

I have made a couple of decisions regarding on how I am editing the video; such as doing a sound bridge at the beginning of the scene by first starting of the noise of the party which is occurring on the living room and then Juan appears as he wakes up (meaning that by starting in such manner, it would give the audience the feeling as if we are in Juan's shoes). In the scene as it would occur many times on the film, we will be able to perceive the circumstances according to Juan's perspective meaning that once in a while it may be altered into a more imaginative perspective, away from what is truly occurring (like the fact of Ana Sofia and Juan dancing, when actually Juan has not approached Ana yet to ask her to dance).

It has also been decided that after Juan approaches Ana, a thought of her feeling uncomfortable will be shared breaking the fourth wall, since it will work as her consciousness, what she will tell herself. I consider that the way in which both character's will communicate their perspectives both Juan by altering the reality and Ana by sharing her thoughts and comments and what is occurring, it would bring a more creative and broader perspective on how memories could be manipulated, and how one may communicate with oneself since I remember from the class of Developmental Psychology that I took during summer; that one's memories are always altered on things we decided to make an emphasis on, or they could be completely altered from what truly happened. This mostly happens in childhood memories, but so it happens when one is misunderstanding a situation such as jumping into conclusions (it has happened to me a lot, and this week I got to see how many times I assumed something from what a friend said, and it meant the opposite since I decided to focus on only one aspect, and completely ignored what made the sentence or the intention different; I don't know but this occurs a lot when one is texting but so it happens in everyday life conversations and interactions).

So yeah I have decided I have decided to represent such perspectives of both protagonists in this manner, and now that I am thinking about it, I would like to make clear that I am not conveying that I consider boys to be more superficial or uncapable of understanding the social situations, but honestly the reason why I have decided to represent both perspectives in this way, it is due to the fact that from my experience, I have only been in the shoes on how to manage relationships from the perspective of the feminine gender, meaning that in Ana Sofia's perspective it made with more depth and reality, since it is more accurate to what I have experienced. Juan's perspective would be more of fantasy since I wanted to also demonstrate how Ana Sofia's maturity on relationships would contrast from Juan, exaggerating his perspective of the love made up of pure fantasy, giving comedy to the film. This would not be with the intention of following stereotypes or giving label that men have a more basic criteria when looking for love, but this fantasies perspective could also be relevant to any gender since it is common to blindly fall in love with someone idolizing them, what would mostly occur in the first experiences with relationships. SO, I am not intending to give any label nor underestimate young boy in love, I just want to make a point of how love could be visualized different according to the maturity of the individual.

Inspired by the Mexicans

Buenas buenas
Since I am doing self quarantine, I have stayed at home all these days and I have spend it in an intelligent manner, watching excellent films; that for me is essential.
I wanted to spend this time watching films that well done and I have not seen. So I decided to watch films only by Mexican directors; I was already a fan of the work of Guillermo del Toro but I had not given the opportunity to works of Alfonso Cuaron and Alejandro Iñarritu. And wow I did need to watch these films.
From Alejandro I watched "Babel" and from Cuaron I watched "Y tu mama tambien" and "Roma".
Film Flammers: BabelRoma (2018 film) - WikipediaGay Films - Y Tu Mamá También | Gay Essential

I have been recommended this films a long time ago, but I feel that these films are sometimes hard to digest so I think I could not have handle it before so it was good to see it now. And hey what does this have to do with my project? well this are highly known film by Mexican directors, also this films are so natural that makes you believe that you were part of the story, mostly in "Y ty mama tambien" since it is filmed as a documental, and this is what I actually wanted to achieve witht the hand held filming so YES these films taught me a lot; things such as putting for backgorund conversation in the subtitles as "indistinctive spanish chattering" which I do need to put in scenes were there are characxters speaking in Spanish and their conversations are not relevant to the story.

As a result, I have spent most of my week watching foreign films which include their original language and are documentary like, so they have shown me techniques that I can include in my editing and how I could play with the narration of a film; as it is done in "Y tu mama tambien" (which by the way, this film has become one of my favorite films since the film seems so real and nostalgic, that made me want to go to Mexico; and wow I love the cast).

In addition, I watched the documentary on how Cuaron created Roma, it is a Netflix show of Road to Roma which explained all the process of the filming and Cuaron's inspirations; and WOW I got to say I am surprised that I unconsciously thought as Cuaron when preparing and filming fo the intro. For example, I did not give a script since the scene needed to look as spontaneous; the classifying the background actors according to their looks and style, and not wanting to use so much close ups since the character will stand out from the rest, and not all characters deserve such deep focus since it almost seems as intimate. I have to say I am proud and I know that I am not the same level of director as Cuaron, yet; but gotta say I am proud of my techniques and my instincts.

Hello videos

Hello everybody, so it turns out this week that I have i do not have to attend to school due to the Corona Virus, and since this issue is serioous, we do not know when we are going to come back to school and how the tests for the end of the school year  are going to be like. Thank god I had already filmed my video before we are doing self -quarantine because for my video I need many people. So I will not do any re shoots due to the situation and because I have already checked all my videos and there is no need that I see, yet. Let's hope for the best!

Good news, the due date of the project was extended to February 12, what gives me more time to finish the project and I am really excited to edit; although I have to admit that it is kind of nerve wracking since this project is really important and it should end up been the best that it could be.

As I was reviweing the videos, I found so many funny moments and great shots such as this one:

I am proud of the aesthetic of the scenes and how my main characters have chemistry as they dance!!!!

I am super proud of the couple I created, and from the videos I got to see how they did stand out from the crowd and how their dancing and steps highly ifferentiate from the other couples, theirs seemed more fluid and more intimate SO IT DID GO AS WANTED!!!!!!!!!

As I was checking the videos I saw some minor issues such as some camara shadows, some people looking at the camera but since I have a lot of material I can deal with it and avoid those videos, and it is good that during the filming I did notice those mistakes, except Camila looking straight to the camera jkffdsoufjsdfndsj oh well I think I can manage it! :)

I was also considering a narration to the scene since I consider that it is a manner for the characters to connect the audiences with the story, and provide more context. But I have to see, who will speak, and what is going to be said and when; this has to be well thought!

So right now whatI have to do is edit and I was thinkingn that for the template of the main title, it should be colored light yellow, and I am speaking to my friend Dean to know how to put a cool template. I also have to look which title for credits I will add, my mom wantes to be in one of them and I do not know if I can, maybe? idk but she deserves it.

All my friends and family are excited to see what is the final product, also as I said before, La Fania Record also wants to see it, again no pressure, not at all :)

The experience :)

Hello everybody
I just have to say: "Oh what a night" -the Four Seasons, December 1963
The filming was GOOD but it was tough, we finished at 3:00am and it really took all my energy for today.
Now I will do a resume of the experience. Everyone arrived and they were already dressed except for the main characters since they did not have the cloth. As everyone arrived I checked their cloth to see what needed to be fixed and what needed to be added. A diffculty from the outfits of the boys was that most of them dressed almost the same what caused me to change a lot of things so they would differentiate but overall it was satisfactory. And when it came to the girls for some reason they all were hyper and were running around getting ready. When we were doing the makeup it took the longest since we had to do it carefully so it looks like the 80's makeup. (by the way, I could not have done this without the help of my parents, they helped a lot) My mom kept track of what needed to be fixed from all the outfits of the girls and helped witht the makeup and hairstyle. A friend of mine was who was doing the makeup and I was also doing it; I also did the hairstyles for all the girls.
At some point as the girls were getting ready, they were all asking me for stuff and help and it was crazy how much I was doing and how everybody was asking for me BUT I always was calmed cause if I did not, who would? I was the director, so in order for things to work, I had to put all my patience and passion to it.

But before all that craziness and pro-activity, I had to explain and thank to all my cast members since I highly appreaciated their participation on my project. Duringmy explanation, I explained the purpose of the introduction, the techniques that will be included, the pivotal moments, and my request of patience for the retakes.. Also I showed them techniques of how to look natural and told them to NEVER EVER to look at the camera; and explained how i have to take so many takes since that moment can't be recreated.

Look at this beautiful cast!
This was when we were ready to shoot

Before filming, I spoke to all the main characters in order to let them know what are their situations in each scene so they could get into the role and get to know what was their purpose in each scene. I did this to all members but to explaining the logic of their actions within the scenes, since they willl all be seen, their actions needed to be with a purpose and well acted. Therefore, I aligned them as the Chorus Line, and according to the outfit and idea they provided, I grouped them and set them a purpose on the scene. Since the beginning, as I had planned, I setted some roles to the story such Juan's friends, Ana Sofia's and also ended up adding the character of Juan's sister, givng purpose to the party since it was the idea of the sister which was assigned to my friend Camila.

Since my friends are not actors and they actually participated on my video and I did not want to tire them since they were already helping me, I decided to create no script nor lines but rather decided to have an idea of what the main character's were supposed to say in each scene but for me it was more important to keep the scene the most natural that it could be, therefore NO LINES.

In the filming the hardest was to do the opening scene, since it had to be well acted, it was the first scene filmed, and the the actors were finding the best way they could intepret their character. At some point it was hard to film that scene, the part of the bedroom, since I wanted them to act natural and some were not comfortable with their actions so it was modified to their preference and it actually worked so I can't argue. i was always open to their ideas, since they could visualize the scene from a perspective that I had not heard of.

For the dancing scene, I thought it would be necessary for me to appear, but I saw that it was better if I did not since I preferred to have better filming instead of good dancers, and rather focus on a better chemistry within the dance of the main characters. So I ended up filming my friends, and some of them got in trouble since they arrived at 7pm at my house, and the filming needed to take place during the night so there would not be any change in the lighting and since it wouold actually take place during the night within the story. However, some parents of my friends wanted to already pick them up since it was too late (we finished filming at 3am) and it was Andres birthday (Juan's bestfriend in the story).

Lastly, as my friend's had to leave, I left Juan's and Ana Sofia's scene for the end since they needed to be by themselves since it is a fantasy so i did not need my friend in the back. It was also hard to film Sofia, when she was dancing by herself standing out from the crowd since we were laughing but it ended up good (this actually happened during the filming of Call me by your name since Armie Hammer was embarrassed to dance, and the scene focused on it).

As a result, everything turned out better than I thought, it is definetely a memorable experience and it actually gave and idea of how tough filming could be and how patient one should be. EVERYONE worked hard, and I am thankful for all the help I received from my friends, parents and the main actors (Juan) attitude since he was so energetic even though at some point some were loosing it, he was just really happy to film.
My rptagonists putted their hard into it and I am really thankful for that. ALSO, another thing that had to change during filming was the lighting. In my first post I mentioned how I wanted to put light of color yellow, blue and purple; I thought yellow could not be achieved since I di not have it but it turns out I did not end up using the light with the cellophane but only used the disco lights and the blu lights, and also turned on some lights of my house since the scene was toooooo dark, and by doing that it added the yellow light that I first wanted to also add to give the warmth of the Hispanic environment.
I am really happy with this :) Now I will rest and be with my friends who stayed after filming

FILMING DAY

Hello hello hello
Today is filming day and I am doing this blog before the cast arrives; what I have done already is set up all the places where the scene will take place, and bought all the food that I do not know if it is also considered as prop but I need it for the environment of the party; I bought bread and sausages for hot dogs, chips, and sodas since I am basically throwing a party since the scene is a party, I am intrigued on how this will turn out.

There has been already some difficulties, many people have claimed that they will not be able to go, so I've had to add more people and some of them can and some can't but I still have a fair number of people so we are good. I told the girls of the cast that they should arrive at 6:30pm s
o they could dress up and fix their hair, and the boys can arrive at 7:00pm since they will not use makeup.
As I was saying... I set up my living room and my bedroom since these will be the places where the scene will take place. SO, I first started setting up the living room since it is the hardest; I removed all furniture, decorations and only left and added hat was key to the Venezuelan culture, which was the catholic statues and art works of things from Venezuela or tropical scenes. Then I set the dance floor, which is set up almost as a puzzle. (By the way I did this with the help of my parents) Then I placed both tables and dressed them with the table cloth, and lastly putted some ballons to give the environment that it is a party but it is not highly decorative nor much effort was putted into it since my mom told me that her birthday parties in her teeenage life  had decorations but not much effort was put into it. (Also the ballons are pink and yellow to keep the latino style because for some reason it looks humble, and matches  with the table cloth).

Before
After

So this was the set up for the party scene and now my bedroom. My bedroom has too much decoration so I had to remove everything that was going to appear on the shots and had to also change my bed cover to a more simple one and actually took the oldest that I had, which was gender neutral and it is not too big since in Venezuela not much houses have an A/C so one should use a light bed cover. Also I had to take old pictures of my dad in his 20's when he used to go to the beach and surf. I took those pictures since they will give an environment of bedroom decoration of teenage boy. Also I took the rubix cube that my cousins left at my house, to put on the table next to the bed and also placed other things such as a wallet and a watch that is a looks like a calculator which is actually from the 80s. I also placed some cassettes and some small statues from Margarita which is the island from Venezuela since most Venezuelans go to the island and may have stuff they bought on their trip.
Lastly, I placed a vinyl dics that had in the cover I pretty girl, next to a rosary, since it is part of the latino culture to be "machistas" even though they are catholics and "respect women", this will set the idea of what are Juan's ideals and precepts when it comes to women. There are also some other details, and they were mostly gotten from my dad, but they all are from the 80's or existed in 80's.

While I was preparing my room, my dad set all the lights for the scene, I am really thankful for all his help :) hoping for the best during the filming!!!!!!!! bye bye

Hoy es viernes y el cuerpo lo sabe

The title is a Venezuelan phrase that is said all fridays when one is already tired of the week and ready for the weekend. The translation is "It is Friday and the body knows it".

Hello everybody, so today was a great day at school, I do not know if we should keeep having school due to the situation with the Corona Virus but I hope that we do not, because it is dangerous to be exposed to so many people as it occurs at my school. Oh and I left my keys at my house so I expected to do this post right after school but I had to wait an hour outside my house to get picked up by my parents and go to their work instead. However let's talk about my preparation for tomorrow,
 THE DAY OF FILMING.

As I was in the car, I thought that it was necessary to look for inspiration in my favorite show: SKAM Italia; this is an amazing show which is filmed as if it is a documentary, therefore it is filmed hand held; and as I was thinking, there is one scene on season 2, episode 03; which is a party and the lighting is all red which gives a beautiful look for the scene, since it seems passionate.

I love how this scene all looks red, giving a mood for the scene according to the context and visuals. Consequently, THIS is what I want to do for my scene.

As I said before, I needed to go to my parent's party rental to get all the props, and one of them was the lighting. LUCKY ENOUGH they had blue lighting (indigo like) which is one of the colors I wanted for the scene, and they also had a like 2 lights that did the disco effect that could be controled with a control, so what I am going to do for the scene is place blue lights in all the living room to set the blue color, and use the two disco balls to make a difference between what is been a fantasy and real, when it is real the colors GREEN, BLUE and RED will be the colors of the dots made by the disco ball; an when it is fantasy only BLUE and RED will appear since they together make purple and it looks more romanticized and better for Jaun's fantasy.

Here I am taking all the lights to my car

Then my dad recommended to also put some special lighting and put over it a blue and purple sheet of cellophane to give color to it, so I am also taking that. Also, I am just going to put 2 tables one small to put the beverages and a circled one, so some people could speak or eat in it. I am going to dress the tables in yellow table cloth since it was a common color to dress a table back then.

And here is my mom holding the table cloth that we chose :)

Since the party needs to look a little bit tropical, I decided that the chairs should be the bamboo ones so it looks different and gives a better environement for the scene; and I will put a dance floor that has the same color of the bamboo. Even though these are not exactly things used in Venezuela, they will give a different environment for the scene, making it seem as foreign, and making it look as a simple party, not too elegant, not to much money invested; and also not too modern but rather tropical, simple and warm colors.

The Style, Time and Space

As I said before, my film is going to be based in Venezuela during the 80's. Since i am from 2002 I had to do some research on the topic cause I wasn't there; therefore, part of my research was speaking with some experts on the topic, my parents. My parents always tell me their anecdotes on how Venezuela was before the crisis, which was thje period of their adolescence. As a result, those were Venezuela's Golden ages, the reason why I chose to base my story on this time and space.
Venezuela at that time was a tropical paradise, a place in which the weather was perfectly fresh and tropical, the people were open to offering opportunities to all kind of immigrants, and it was easy to live as a millionaire since everything was really cheap. Also, the people and natural places such as the beaches, were considered perfectly beautiful. Consequently, I consider that this time and space is something that is meaningful to all Venezuelans since it is such a nostalgic moment even to the people who did not live in such era, due to how all Venezuelan's who lived always recall it and level the expectations or the new generation who wants to live in the kind of Venezuela that was known for been a tropical paradise.

¿Cómo era la vida en Venezuela en los años 80? - Quora

34 tendencias de La década del 80 en Venezuela para ...

Even though Venezuela is in South America, it has always been highly influenced by the American culture, therefore, Venezuelans also dressed with the American trends such as oversized shirts, blazers, high waisted jeans, high ponytails, vibrant colors for eyeshadow, Reeboks, really short shorts for boys, etc...As a result, the trends were much of the same for both cultures but since the story is based in Venezuela, I have decided that more cloths were going to be repeated for the boys since what was mostly common for the era in Venezuela, is that boys did not choose controversial outfits but rather the classic light blue jeans and white t-shirt or somehting like these:

For the girls, since it is something more playful I have decided to try outfit ideas, at first i thought I could do this by myself but it turned out to look horrible, I looked as a crazy person; but my mom then chose what I should wear and how to do my hair and makeup and I loved it. I decided not to buy anything for the outfits but rather take specfic cloths from my closet since they can be arranged to look as if they are form the 80's since today's cloths are actually kind of vintage, however this was the outcome, what inspired me for most of the girls.

Here is another outfit depending on the style of the girl since not all girls have the same personality:

And lastly, this made me question, if the introduction is going to be a party scene then all the people within the intro should wear cloth from the 80's that I authorize, casual but good looking since it is a party. Also, it made me think how I wanted to differentiate the main characters so I have decided that since the main character is fantasizing that his crush and him are perfect to eachother, then in such fantasy they should wear the same shirt, a botton white shirt with pink lines and medium sleeves. My main actor has this shirt and i have this shirt but long sleeve for girl. Both actors will wear this shirt opened, with a white shirt under it; since i want them to match and make them stand from the rest by having a matching shirt that is in the pastel colors.

For Ana Sofia's outfit, the inspiration will be from the protagonist of the Venezuelan Telenovela from the 80's "Abigail". This character and actress, were considered as icons for what was considered attractive for the boy in the 80's, and icon for the valley girls of Venezuela.Abigail - Capítulo 44 - YouTube

For juan's outfit, the outfit of the character Oliver (the one on the left) in Call me by your name which is a story based in the 80's in Italy, and the outfits use a lot of summer cloths and pastel colors for r's character.

Dream girl/ Ana Sofia's character development

Hello everybody who sees this blogposts of my portfolio. How are you? Even though you can not reply, usually when people ask this, they are not even interested in the answer so yeah it is ok for me to ask it. How are you guys?

So for today's blogpost not going to lie, I hnavbe not gotten my idea clear; therefore, I hope to write this blogpost and find my idea as I am doing it :); back to the point, for this blig I am going to discuss thecharacter development I will create for the female character of Ana Sofia. As I have said before Ana Sofia is going to be Juan's crush, but I wanted to to deepen the reason why Ana Sofia rejects Juan; so it I considered necessary to develop her a personality or back story. For this I have been researching in Youtube about the female character tropes in film, by the way I highly recommend all these videos, and to be honest now I get to see that I love Joseph Gordon Levitt and his films.

In all these videos I got to see how when fantasizing on women or when it comes to attraction in the perspective of a guy, ( in the wrong manner) there are some similar patterns. By the way, for this film I am interesting in studying the perspective of a guy in love since by been a girl I am only familiar with one side, and I would like to truly understand the other gender's perspective of how they view love in order to see if it is as messed up accprding to these tropes, so this is the reason why I consider that these are the patterns of an unhealthy attraction I don't know how to explain this. But well as I was saying, the patterns patterns were mostly:

  • Ideolizing women as the solution of their life
  • Been attracted to innocence
I really summarized these videos in these two sentences but majorly the thing that they all have in common is misunderstanding the other genre and the meaning of love since most of them came from controlling the partner or been controlled, or accusing the partner of been mean when in reality it turns out that one is not the villain but rather that both could be toxic or could have negative attitudes that limit the other to have a healthy relationship. So as i am writing about this I just realized that I would like my film to teach or maybe exploit the idea of how we misunderstand the other genre pretending that we comprehend them when it is rather insulting and not succesful in order to obtain a healthy relationship. And however is reading is may think hum...why is she focsuing to much on the healthy relationship and blkah blah I know and it does relate to personal stuff because I am truly interested on understanding attraction and love since I have gotten to see how in high there are many misunderstandings when it comes to relationships and what we tend to consider as love.
As a result, I want to create my female character as a the reality of all misconceptions of love, I want it to become the contrast of such fantasies caused by negative patterns; in order to give vboys a realistic example of how young women are and what would be more acceptable as love, in which in my consideration would be as true connection and love for the other instead of the love in oneself; although I do not know much about love and who I am to teach people which is the correct manner of love, I consider that is necessary to create a fiolm that gives an answer to this question or at least works to give also the realistic perspective and representation of girl in love.

Who would interpret such role in m,y film, will be my beautiful friend, Sofia; I wanted to give her a name similar to her real name so Ana Sofia suits really good. So Ana Sofia is going to be from Venezuela, and she is going to be an honest girl with high expectations i life, meaning that she is nnot going to accept any guy into her love life nor she is going to rely on been in love according to a fanstasy of ideolization of the couple. I want her character also to be consciouss of her actions but not nervous about them, therefore I want to create a confident and intelligent girl as the representation of Ana Sofia's character; I do not want to make her as the prodigee nor smartest girl but just consciouss and mature; therefore it will affect the way she visualizes love meaning that it will contrast with Juan's perception causing them to be incompatible. That is it! Juan vs maturity. Therefore as I fully understand my purpose, I am going to finish this post as the show Narcos begins, that if anything is similar to real life, it is pure coincidence ;)

El Cantante by Hector Lavoe/pivotal scene

So since my classmate told me that I had to schedule my progress on the project iin order to ge things on time, I did so and I have not told you guys, I think; but I had to write a letter to Fania Records in order to get permission from to use the song El Cantante by Hector Lavoe. Last week I sended them the email and three days straight I was giving the details and information about the project to the worker who was taking my case, from the company; a week past and I felt that I had to  wait since my case might have been in the procedure but it turns out that the last email in which I sended all the specific information the worker needed in order to approve my case, was not sended; therefore the whole week was waited for no reason :) however, I scheduled to get the answer on thursday and I did get on that date since I decided to send my information again, and I got the approval right away!

As a result, I have the permission to use the song but now is how I am going to download it, how much I might use and whether it is always going to be diegetic or not. Since my main character is in a fantasy I need an effect from the sound that would allow the audience differentiate between reality and fantasy; therefore, from the song El Cantante, I have decided to use from the min 4:20 to 6; but WHY? well let me tell you why, in such part of the song the harmony of the instruments changes by adding up violines which provides a sensantional of dreamlike, somwhat  magical which is elemental to build up a fantasy. Such part of the song gives the sensation of been in love or been in a very intimate scene, I don't know or at least to me that scene provides such sensation. But still with such song my objective is to give the environment of how the main character, Juan; is falling in love or been attracted to Ana Sofia, as he find her dancing in the party; such scene would require slow zooms, and close ups in order to make the scene intimate, special and pivotal compared to the rest of the scenes.

Sadly some plans i had for the scene are going to be changed since Ana Sofia bumping Juan by ignoring his presence seems too cheesy, I am interested in building such rejection or awkwardness by differentiatijng the style I am giving for the scenes of how Juan gets to fall in love with Ana Sofia and how Ana Sofia actually views Juan. Lately, I nhave been trying to understand how I can build this idea of perspectives and I consider that what is best is to film Juan scenes of the Point of View, as I said before, in such slow motion or zoom, and close ups in whioch a connection between the characters could be deducted; and when it comes to Ana Sofia's perspectives, the face expressions would be different and the shots would be hand-held shots so the shots wold look more realistic since honestly in a party one is constantly moving from plce to place and looking everywhere instead to straight to one point as Juan is doing.

In addition, since I wanted to build both perspectives of the characters i considered necessary to also elaborate more on the female character which is Ana Sofia, at first I wanted to create her as the untouchable crush but honestly it is necessary for us to see why there is not such connection between the protanost and her if in Juan's perspective they are meant to be. Therefore, the film would be a dromedy in which the focus of the relationship is on both perspectives; although, in this case between Juan and Ana Sofia there is nothing going to happen, the "love story" of the story that is not about love, would definetly focus on both sides in order to connect more with the characters and get better opinions on the character's actions and final result. Conseuqently I will have to investigate of female tropes in film in order to know what is necessary in order to build up for my character of the crush Ana Sofia, since I am intending to make her human, and Juan be the oone who is incorrect although I want ot make his msitakes relevant to the target audience of teenagers,a dn adults since they have also gone through having a cursh in high school. So yeah, I will research on ho i want to create my female character so I could  know hopw to portray her in the scene, and consider which new scenes whould be added so this could be understood.
There is a lot of work to do!!!!!

The casting for the party

As I spoke to my teacher and mother about my idea for the film introduction, in which the scene would take place in a party, she recommended me three things:

  • Give all actors and the space a unique style according to the time and place, which would be Venezuela 1982.
  • For the production, there must be 10 couples in order for the scene to look as party like, therefore 20 people is needed.
  • During the filming, they must dance to the song that would appear in the scene in order for the style of dances to match with the music from the scene.
  • The characters can speak in Spanish, and English subtitles must be putted, not for the lyrics of the song but just dialogue between characters.
  • There can be the use of cursing but I should not overuse it and acknowledge that it might be offensiveness.
  • The language should be adapted also to the time and place in order to be correct.
  • The dialogue should imply reasons for Juan's attitudes without been to explicit, but rather implying that Juan is not usually so down.
  • And special effects such as the sweat from the actors in the dance scene, should be added.
All these details would lead the acting and story to be more comprehensible and believable in 2 min.
At first, and still kind of is, the idea of filming with a large group of people is kind of overwhelming since I am the director of the project I will have to direct and ask for many times to re shoot scenes, and since most people I contacted, which are my friends, do not mostly like acting, I acknowledge that they may irritate after a while, but still I well thought and chose who are the people I want to be acting on my film intro; as I said on the last post, I already chose who are the protagonists, Juan and Sofia; interpreting the roles of Juana and Ana Sofia :) all with the intention to keep the actors comfortable even in the language since both have as native language, Spanish; although, for the protagonist, Juan will have to interpret a Venezuelan character when he is truly Colombian, or this might change as well.
In addition, for the people I have chosen to be part of my project as actors, I have chosen them according to these standards:
  • Looks: Colored skin, dark hair (Hispanic physique).
  • Race: Hispanic for the looks and language since all dialogues will be in Spanish.
  • Skills: Dance salsa, or be able to be on the beat.
  • Attitude: Respectful and be able to follow directions ( even though I even asked friends that I had a long time ago without speaking to, I consider people that i knew I could count on since they would respect the process of production in order to prevent what has already happened in past projects in which people I have asked to participate as actors, have tried to take over how the project will be, which is unacceptable and mostly on this one, also everything must follow the plan I intent for the introduction, this may sound as too closed minded, but I want this production to be done with purpose).
Project X - Movies & TV on Google PlayI acknowledge that the people I have asked to act on the film, are not actors nor professionals, they are close or friends that I have, therefore, I acknowledge that I have to be patient during the process and also offer them a comfortable place during the filming since many of them were anxious as they knew they were about to be filmed and possibly shown in front of my class. However, I convinced them by assigning them roles according to their capabilities and willingness. Within the party, I have created characters which are whether elemental to the development of the story or elemental to the environment of the party. in the party, aspects such as couples dancing really close, groups of girlfriends, boys and girls who don't like dancing because they do not know how to, etc...will be included since it is what mostly happens in a party, and mostly when it comes to a Latino party since one gets to see drastically who knows how to dance and who does not, so this may be a pretty intimidating situation for many people.

The actors (my friends) whom I have asked to participate on my film introduction and their assigned roles are:
  1. Juan D (Protagonist, Juan)
  2. Sofia H (Crush, Ana Sofia)\
  3. Luis (Juan's Friend #1, Willie)
  4. Fabiola (Willie's Girlfriend, Girl #2)
  5. Javier (Main Dancer)
  6. Miguel (Dancer #1)
  7. Isabella (Girl f #1)
  8. Alex (Girl f #2)
  9. Camila (Girl f #3)
  10. Victoria (Couple #1)
  11. Nicolas (Couple #1)
  12. Sofia F (Couple #2)
  13. Juan Esteban (Couple #2)
  14. Andres (Boy #1)
  15. Sebastian (Boy #2)
  16. Aitor (Boy #3)
  17. Amy (Back #3)
  18. Esteban (Boy #4)
  19. Elianne ( Back #1)
  20. Olga (Back #2)
  21. AND I WILL ALSO ACT (If I can or is necessary) (Main dancer with  3. Javier)
  • (Most numbers are also marked within the story board if there is any acting, dialogue or appearance required)
I still need to assign who is going to be Juan's Friend #2 whom I choosing to whether play it Andres or Aitor, it all depend on their availability, if they want to and how they match with the protagonist. I asked Juan D, who is going to be the protagonist to make his best friends act as his best friends but in the film, so there could not be such thing needed to be acted but it rather comes natural and more comfortable, I will see how i am going to arrange such character, and how we are going to create friend chemistry between the ones I end up assigning. This chemistry between the characters is elemental during the casting decisions since this will affect how the audience will view them, whether they truly match as friends, and how natural this comes. For the film Factor X, which its story is of a group of friend who make an iconic party, the director decided to send the casted actors for the roles of the three best friends, and send them into a trip so they could become actual friends; I love this idea and necessity of chemistry between the actors, however we'll see how the cast for the friends ends up since for the crush and protagonist relationship, they already know each other and are even friends, also there is no necessity of such "chemistry"  since the purpose is to convey how uninterested Ana Sofia is with Juan. I almost forget, I will ask Juan to sleep really late the night before so he has bags under his eyes and it would give him the look of not feeling good and been emotionally tired; and lastly for the casting, i have chosen as major characters people who are outstanding on how they dance, or match to a character, and if they are assigned as couple is because they will actually dance with their actual partner, therefore, they may feel comfortable and it is a realistic affectionate interaction.
Consequently,  this Saturday at 8:00 pm the filming will be done and I have to provide a nice environment for my cast; I need to set up the environment for the living room such as which lights I will end up using, and also which are the outfits that I will ask the actors to strive for, which will be later accommodated as they arrive to the production. I can't wait! it is overwhelming but I think it will be a pretty memorable experience in which lots will be learned and it will be worth it! :)
