The experience :)

Hello everybody
I just have to say: "Oh what a night" -the Four Seasons, December 1963
The filming was GOOD but it was tough, we finished at 3:00am and it really took all my energy for today.
Now I will do a resume of the experience. Everyone arrived and they were already dressed except for the main characters since they did not have the cloth. As everyone arrived I checked their cloth to see what needed to be fixed and what needed to be added. A diffculty from the outfits of the boys was that most of them dressed almost the same what caused me to change a lot of things so they would differentiate but overall it was satisfactory. And when it came to the girls for some reason they all were hyper and were running around getting ready. When we were doing the makeup it took the longest since we had to do it carefully so it looks like the 80's makeup. (by the way, I could not have done this without the help of my parents, they helped a lot) My mom kept track of what needed to be fixed from all the outfits of the girls and helped witht the makeup and hairstyle. A friend of mine was who was doing the makeup and I was also doing it; I also did the hairstyles for all the girls.
At some point as the girls were getting ready, they were all asking me for stuff and help and it was crazy how much I was doing and how everybody was asking for me BUT I always was calmed cause if I did not, who would? I was the director, so in order for things to work, I had to put all my patience and passion to it.

But before all that craziness and pro-activity, I had to explain and thank to all my cast members since I highly appreaciated their participation on my project. Duringmy explanation, I explained the purpose of the introduction, the techniques that will be included, the pivotal moments, and my request of patience for the retakes.. Also I showed them techniques of how to look natural and told them to NEVER EVER to look at the camera; and explained how i have to take so many takes since that moment can't be recreated.

Look at this beautiful cast!
This was when we were ready to shoot

Before filming, I spoke to all the main characters in order to let them know what are their situations in each scene so they could get into the role and get to know what was their purpose in each scene. I did this to all members but to explaining the logic of their actions within the scenes, since they willl all be seen, their actions needed to be with a purpose and well acted. Therefore, I aligned them as the Chorus Line, and according to the outfit and idea they provided, I grouped them and set them a purpose on the scene. Since the beginning, as I had planned, I setted some roles to the story such Juan's friends, Ana Sofia's and also ended up adding the character of Juan's sister, givng purpose to the party since it was the idea of the sister which was assigned to my friend Camila.

Since my friends are not actors and they actually participated on my video and I did not want to tire them since they were already helping me, I decided to create no script nor lines but rather decided to have an idea of what the main character's were supposed to say in each scene but for me it was more important to keep the scene the most natural that it could be, therefore NO LINES.

In the filming the hardest was to do the opening scene, since it had to be well acted, it was the first scene filmed, and the the actors were finding the best way they could intepret their character. At some point it was hard to film that scene, the part of the bedroom, since I wanted them to act natural and some were not comfortable with their actions so it was modified to their preference and it actually worked so I can't argue. i was always open to their ideas, since they could visualize the scene from a perspective that I had not heard of.

For the dancing scene, I thought it would be necessary for me to appear, but I saw that it was better if I did not since I preferred to have better filming instead of good dancers, and rather focus on a better chemistry within the dance of the main characters. So I ended up filming my friends, and some of them got in trouble since they arrived at 7pm at my house, and the filming needed to take place during the night so there would not be any change in the lighting and since it wouold actually take place during the night within the story. However, some parents of my friends wanted to already pick them up since it was too late (we finished filming at 3am) and it was Andres birthday (Juan's bestfriend in the story).

Lastly, as my friend's had to leave, I left Juan's and Ana Sofia's scene for the end since they needed to be by themselves since it is a fantasy so i did not need my friend in the back. It was also hard to film Sofia, when she was dancing by herself standing out from the crowd since we were laughing but it ended up good (this actually happened during the filming of Call me by your name since Armie Hammer was embarrassed to dance, and the scene focused on it).

As a result, everything turned out better than I thought, it is definetely a memorable experience and it actually gave and idea of how tough filming could be and how patient one should be. EVERYONE worked hard, and I am thankful for all the help I received from my friends, parents and the main actors (Juan) attitude since he was so energetic even though at some point some were loosing it, he was just really happy to film.
My rptagonists putted their hard into it and I am really thankful for that. ALSO, another thing that had to change during filming was the lighting. In my first post I mentioned how I wanted to put light of color yellow, blue and purple; I thought yellow could not be achieved since I di not have it but it turns out I did not end up using the light with the cellophane but only used the disco lights and the blu lights, and also turned on some lights of my house since the scene was toooooo dark, and by doing that it added the yellow light that I first wanted to also add to give the warmth of the Hispanic environment.
I am really happy with this :) Now I will rest and be with my friends who stayed after filming
